The pharmaceutical company has also initiated procedures to decrease any future incidents. Last year cyber criminals were able to break into the payroll system through the organization's Web portal and achieve access to more than twenty seven thousand records including customer names, Social Security numbers, customer birthdays, and related information pertaining to their bank account. At that time approximately nineteen hundred organizations had been breached or affected. There is a strong possibility the attack that happened to this particular payroll system may have propagated itself and spread further than anyone realizes. Investigators and security experts realize cyber criminals may have corrupted various payroll files that banks use to handle payments belonging to employees. Third party businesses that handle an organization's payroll is possibly one method fraud of this type is perpetrated.
