Windows 7 And Office Stay Strong

Microsoft has built its reputation behind his strength of its two most popular software solutions, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office. Due to the sales of these two fine products, Microsoft has posted a revenue of sixteen billion dollars. This is due to the very strong sales posted for Windows 7 and the recent release of Microsoft Office 2010. At the moment Windows 7 holds sales of one hundred seventy five million licenses and is Microsoft's fastest selling operating system. It is estimated Windows 7 is currently operating on approximately fifteen percent of all personal computers in the world. Peter Klein, Microsoft's chief financial officer had this to say. “The most recent quarter of record revenue demonstrates the extent of our products and our product gain. Klein also noted Windows Server and their Xbox 360 video game machine had very strong performances, and Microsoft's search engine, named Bing, has enjoyed thirteen consecutive months in a gain of share.

Estimates from Gartner would indicate across the globe PC shipments have had a number of just under eighty three million in the second quarter of the year 2010. This gross would indicate a percentage of nineteen percent. Microsoft believes the growth is closer to twenty two to twenty four percent. This growth would include both the business and consumer markets. The general manager of investor relations within Microsoft, Bill Koefoed, said, “Using a geographic outlook, markets that are breaking forward continue to be a primary force of the personal computer segment with close to twice the growth of older markets.” Mikako Kitagawa, a Gartner principal analyst within the research firm said, “Our end figures may end up on the lesser side of the projection, but the consumer market will become heightened compared to the professional arena.”

As the Windows revenue stream increased to more than one billion dollars which represents approximately thirty two percent, Koefoed said, “The complete original equipment manufacturer license growth was twenty six percent and passed the personal computer market for the third straight quarter.” Business personal computers have also been refreshed at a higher cycle and is probably due to the fact that Windows 7 has the capability of operating on a 64-bit machine, and organizations have upgraded their hardware assets. Microsoft also saw an increase in server hardware as well. “Windows Server 2008 R2 has had a pretty strong demand due to the larger Windows Server market. With the releases of Exchange 2010, Office 2010, and SharePoint 2010, we experienced prime patterns in our productivity set.”

The Gartner research firm predicts shipments of professional personal computers will increase in the next twenty four months since many personal computers have now aged. Kitagawa noted, “The older computer systems in existence should have been moved aside, but businesses held off because of the problems involving Vista and the economy. Windows 7 changed the playing field, as the older computers are now in a position of replacement.”

Market analysts believe Apple's new iPad will bite into laptop sales and sales of mini notebooks. Klein believes Microsoft sees this as an addition to the greater market opportunity. “Tablets and related devices hold merit, not allowing us to forget there are new possibilities in existence, and we are taking steps in conjunction with our partners to take advantage of these movements.” Taking away the greater picture of sales from Apple's Mac machines, Kitagawa believes Microsoft's take of computer shipments across the globe is greater than ninety percent. “Viewing the greater revenue stream, it could decrease as Mac has a greater price per system, and iPad shipments have not been included.”
